Covid-19 death toll in Tamil Nadu crosses 6,000 mark

With 121 deaths on Tuesday, the State has reported 6007 deaths due to the infection so far. This comes as the State reported 5709 people testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu state capital Chennai reported over 1000 cases for the fifth day in a row.
Chennai: The death toll due to Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu crossed the 6000 mark on Tuesday, the state bulletin confirmed.

With 121 deaths on Tuesday, the State has reported 6007 deaths due to the infection so far.

This comes as the State reported 5709 people testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. This took the total tally of cases to 349,654.


Tamil Nadu state capital Chennai reported over 1000 cases for the fifth day in a row.

The city is the worst affected district in the State with 1182 people testing positive on Tuesday.

It had maintained a six-day streak last week where the number of cases remained under the 1000 mark, providing some relief.

Among the other districts, Thiruvallur reported 489 cases on Tuesday while Chengalpet and Coimbatore had over 300 cases and Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Salem had more than 200 cases.

As many as 65075 people were tested for the infection on Tuesday. Testing touched an all-time high on Sunday with 70450 being tested for Covid-19 on Sunday.

The number of recoveries stood at 5850, taking the total count of recoveries to 289,787 in the state.
