Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu cross the 4.6 lakh mark

Chennai: Tamil Nadu has reported 463,480 cases of Covid-19 in all after 5783 people tested positive for the infection on Sunday.

This was the first Sunday in months where the State did not have a complete lockdown. This was among the relaxations that the government announced ahead of the lifting of the State wide lockdown on August 31.

Chennai continued to report under 1,000 Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday, which happens to be the fourth consecutive day.


Tamil Nadu’s capital has been the worst affected district in the state since March with the formation of several Covid-19 clusters.

On Sunday, 955 people tested positive for the infection in the city.

Testing touched another all-time high for on Sunday with 84,034 people being tested. This surpassed the number on Friday which stood at 81,588.

As many as 5,820 people were discharged on Sunday, pushing the total recoveries to 404,186.
