Court rejects Bachchan's land plea
A local court rejected a petition filed by Amitabh Bachchan against Barabanki district magistrate's order.
FAIZABAD (UP): A local court on Friday rejected a petition filed by megastar Amitabh Bachchan against Barabanki district magistrate's order cancelling transfer of a land in Daulatpur village in his name.
Additional Commissioner (Administration) V S Prasad, after hearing the arguments of Bachchan's counsel M B Singh, upheld the March 24, 2006 order quashing the transfer of two bigha and five biswa' land by the consolidation officer of Barabanki.
Prasad had on May 29 deferred the case for today.
The then Barabanki district magistrate Aashish Goyal had declared that the mode of transfer of land to Bachchan was illegal and directed to lodge an FIR in the matter.
The land in question was entered in the name of Amitabh Bachchan following an order of consolidation officer, Barabanki on August 10, 1993.
R S Sahu, who succeeded Goyal, on the revision petition of Bachchan requesting for giving him an opportunity to put up his case for the sake of natural justice, stayed the execution of Goyal's order of April 26, 2006, and directed for maintaining status quo.
After this, Singh said, Bachchan filed a revision suit before the Commissioner, Faizabad division, with a prayer to quash the order of Goyal on the ground that no reasonable opportunity was given to him to present his legal position.
