Court permits Yahya's narco test

A local court has permitted the Corps of Detectives, investigating the militant network in Karnataka, to subject terror suspect Mohammad Yahya Kammakutty to narco analysis.

HUBLI: A local court on Monday permitted the Corps of Detectives (COD), investigating the militant network in Karnataka, to subject terror suspect Mohammad Yahya Kammakutty to narco analysis and polygraph test at Bangalore to extract more information about their activities.

Yahya, native of Mukkam in Kozhikode district of Kerala, was nabbed from his Gurappanapalya residence in Bangalore on February 21 and remanded to police custody till March six on February 23.

The Judicial Magistrate, Srinivas, also extended the judicial custody of Riyazuddin Naser alias Mohammad Ghouse and Asadullah Abubakkar till March six.

The duo, who are currently lodged in Bellary jail, could not be produced before the court today, as Ghouse was indisposed.

The magistrate also extended the police custody of Mohammad Asif and Shakeel Mali till March six, after COD sought extension of their custody to conduct further interrogation.

The judicial custody of Allah Baksh, another suspect, lodged in Hubli jail, was also extended upto March six.

The magistrate directed COD to produce all the accused before him on March six.

The COD counsel and Assistant Public Prosecutor Kiran Patil objected to an application filed by the advocate of Asif seeking permission of the court for an interview with his client in the Bellary jail.

The Magistrate, however, did not pass any order.
