Muzaffarnagar: A local court has issued notices to 18 BJP activists including party MP Hukum Singh and MLA Suresh Rana, for alleged violation of prohibitory orders while holding a protest in Shamli in 2013.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vijai Verma yesterday issued notices to 18 people and asked them to appear before the court on December 18 in connection with the case, according to Prosecution Officer Radheyshyam.

Police registered a case of violation of prohibitory orders in connection with the demonstration that took place in Shamli on June 16, 2013.

The dharna was held to demand immediate arrest of the accused in a gangrape case. Hukum Singh is the BJP MP from Kairana and Suresh Rana is the party MLA from Thana Bhawan.
