Court fixes October 13 for hearing case against Sanjeev Balyan, 60 others

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A local court has fixed October 13 for hearing of a case of violation of prohibitory orders against 61 people, including Union Minister of State for Agriculture Affairs Sanjeev Balyan, in connection with the riots in the districts last year.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sita Ram yesterday summoned the complainant, Additional District Magistrate Inder Mani Tripathi, for recording his statement on October 13.

District authorities had filed a case against Balyan and 60 others for violation of prohibitory orders in connection with Muzaffarnagar riots.

The accused include two BJP MPs Bhartendu Singh and Hukum Singh, BJP MLA Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana, khap leader Naresh Tikait and ex-block pramukh Virender Singh.

They have been charged with violation of prohibitory orders and contributing communal tension by making inflammatory speeches in community panchayats held on August 31 and September 7 last year.

Disobeying the order by district authorities banning the panchayats, the accused had participated in two panchayats held in Nagla Madore over Kawal incident in the district.
