Court extends Christian Michel's CBI custody by another 5 days

Taking Central Bureau of Investigation's concerns into account, a special CBI court today extended Christian Michel's CBI remand by five more days. The CBI had reasoned that Christian Michel was not cooperating with the investigations and was evasive in giving answers.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had sought 9 days remand of Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in AgustaWestland case. Michel has moved a fresh bail plea today in CBI Special Court.

Christian Michel, the alleged middleman wanted by investigative agencies in connection with the politically sensitive AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam, was extradited to India earlier this month.

He was brought back from UAE in operation ‘Unicorn’ under the guidance of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The operation was coordinated by interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao.

On January 1, 2014, India scrapped the contract with Italy-based Finmeccanica's British subsidiary AgustaWestland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF over alleged breach of contractual obligations and charges of paying kickbacks to securing the deal.
