NEW DELHI: A court today directed the Delhi Police to file an action taken report (ATR) on a plea seeking lodging of an FIR against VHP leader Pravin Togadia for allegedly promoting religious enmity through provocative statements at a press conference here last month.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sheetal Chaudhary directed the SHO of Jamia Nagar police station in south Delhi to file the ATR by October 1, on a complaint seeking lodging of FIR and issuing summons to Togadia for his alleged remarks.

The complaint was filed by an organisation, United Muslims Front after the police had allegedly refused to register an FIR against Togadia on July 21, 2014. The complaint filed through advocate Shahid Ali, president of the organisation, also sought directions to the police to conduct investigation under sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting religious enmity) and 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) of IPC.
