Country’s first online govt will be ours: Advani

NEW DELHI: Addressing his maiden conference for Delhi polls, former deputy Prime Minister L K Advani came down heavily on the ruling coalition and said that two worst disasters have occurred under Congress rule — corruption and backbreaking inflation.

“Corruption is the biggest problem plaguing our society and a ‘tax’ on our least privileged citizens. We must have zero tolerance against corruption,” said Advani, adding that the money lost to corruption can be used for providing schools, hospitals and to improve lives of people. “I have faith in the ability of state president Vijay Goel and chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan. We will soon form government and run it with complete efficiency” , he said.

Explaining the measures proposed by his party to control graft, Vardhan said, “The problem of corruption can be prevented by ensuring the highest levels of transparency and the use of technology. Just as you have Tax Deduction at Source ( TDS), we will introduce Prevent Corruption at Source (PCS).” We will minimize the need to visit government offices and deliver citizens public services through the internet, added Vardhan.

“Our government will be India’s first online government . All government functions such as receiving applications, granting approvals , providing information , procurement and decision-making shall be made transparent and online. This would not only enhance productivity but also inculcate respect for the system,” he added.

Vardhan also said that his party plans to formulate a code of conduct for senior government functionaries so they could deliver services in a time-bound manner.
