NEW DELHI: Key NDA constituent TDP today attacked the Congress, which dubbed the suspension of its 25 MPs as a 'black day for democracy', and said the country had witnessed several such days during its regime including the Emergency.

Senior TDP leader and Lok Sabha member Konakalla Narayana Rao said the country had witnessed several 'black days' during the Congress rule including the imposition of Emergency in 1975 and bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

"Many national leaders were arrested during the Emergency and jailed. In 2014, more than 10 MPs from TDP and other parties, who opposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, were suspended from Parliament," Rao said.

He said that the TDP Parliamentary Party meeting was held today, in which a decision was taken to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to press for special status for Andhra Pradesh, as assured in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
