Country must defeat forces of violence: PM
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said the country has to leave the path of violence whether it is in Jammu and Kashmir or Kandhamal in Orissa and take all steps to defeat such forces behind the criminal acts.

NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said the country has to leave the path of violence whether it is in Jammu and Kashmir or Kandhamal in Orissa and take all steps to defeat such forces behind the criminal acts.
"We have to leave the path of violence... Whether it is in J&K or Orissa's Kandhamal. To defeat such forces, we have to take all steps," Singh said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a function to commemorate the 103rd birth anniversary of former UP Chief Minister and Union Minister Kamlapati Tripathi here.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, were among those present at the function at the Parliament Library giving the impression that the Congress wants to woo the Brahmin vote bank in UP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Singh and Gandhi praised the late Tripathi and described him as a champion of secularism.

"We remember his legacy to motivate us to work for the unity and integrity of the country," the Prime Minister said. Paying tributes to Tripathi, Gandhi said the big challenges before the country can be faced by following Tripathi's tradition.
"Attempts are being made to destroy Indian tradition.. We have to work with devotion and service. The challenges can be met by following his tradition..." Gandhi said.
She recalled that her family relationship with Tripathi it was not political but a personal one.
"I felt it during the days of Indiraji," said the Congress President. The Prime Minister also released a book "Bapu aur Manavta" penned by Tripathi on the occasion.
