Corporates may misuse Lokpal, new instrument to take on politicians: Vayalar Ravi

Vayalar Ravi said the agitation over Lokpal bill was aimed at providing corporates a new instrument to take on the political class.

NEW DELHI: Union minister Vayalar Ravi said the agitation over the Lokpal bill was aimed at providing corporates a new instrument to take on the political class.

Ravi on Monday said the recent attack on the government by industry leaders clearly indicated that the Centre's "pro-poor policies" were not being liked by the "super rich". He said the talk of policy paralysis stemmed from their grudge over the government's reluctance to be on the side of the corporates.

"Who will benefit from Lokpal? Certainly the corporate houses. They have been very critical of the government as they feel nothing is moving for them. They are becoming very powerful and they may misuse Lokpal in future to get back at the government. There is a sinister campaign in all this," he said.

Ravi charged Anna Hazare with trying to undermine supremacy of the Constitution.

"This man is trying to dictate things with ulterior motives. He is trying undermine the Constitution. He is trying to weaken Parliament by making unreasonable demands. There is a way to do things," the minister said.
