NEW DELHI: Controversial judge of the Madras High Court, CS Karnan, who had accused the Chief Justice of India and other fellow judges of discrimination on caste grounds, has been transferred along with several other High Court judges.

Chief Justice TS Thakur had indicated when he took office that he would not hesitate to move against Karnan whose actions had led to a split in both the bar and bench along political and caste lines, and prompted many a lawyers to strike. He has now been transferred to the Calcutta High Court.

Another judge R Sudhakar has also been transferred out of the Madras High Court to J&K High Court. Several Delhi HC judges have also been transferred.

Sources said that this was part of an exercise to deal with complaints of alleged conflict of interest. In some it was done for administrative reasons. In others, it involved those against whom there were specific complaints.
