The spread of Covid-19 cannot be controlled unless vaccinations are allowed for everyone above the age of 18, an advisor to the Maharashtra government said.

“If you want a comprehensive control on the present wave, then, besides augmenting health measures, you also need to vaccinate everyone above the age of 18,” Subhash Salunkhe, advisor to the Maharashtra government, told ET.

Maharashtra has the highest number of total and active cases in the country and with a resurgence in infections, is set to come up with restrictions/lockdown in a couple of days.

Salunkhe has been pushing the Maharashtra government to get the Central government to allow vaccinations for everyone, especially in states such as Maharashtra. The state was the first to demand that everyone above the age of 45 be vaccinated and they became eligible for the shots on Thursday.
