Consumers can get RInfra meters tested: MERC
The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has invited electricity consumers of Reliance Infrastructure (R Infra), earlier known as Reliance Energy, in suburban Mumbai to carry out third party meter testing.
MERC has issued a public notice in local newspapers inviting applications from consumers who would like their imported meters installed by RInfra tested by an independent agency accredited by National Accreditation Board Laboratories (NABL).
The decision has been taken in order to verify RInfra-D consumers growing concerns over higher consumption recorded by imported electronic meters, the public notice states. The RInfra spokesperson was not available for comment. By allowing third party meter testing, the energy regulator wants to verify the accuracy of operational meters for a sample number of consumers from residential, commercial, and industrial categories.
Earlier this month, MERC had stayed its own order allowing RInfra to raise tariffs, after the state government asked the regulator to see if the hike was unreasonable.
