Constitutional status to NCBC under consideration: Government

NEW DELHI: A proposal to give constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes ( NCBC) is under the consideration of the government, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

In reply to a question, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar said the proposal to give constitutional status to NCBC is in process in the ministry.

The Parliamentary Committee for Welfare of Other Backward Classes ( OBCs) has recommended granting constitutional status to NCBC which is under the consideration of the government, he said.

Responding to another question, Gurjar said the National Commission for Scheduled Castes is empowered to look into the grievances related to OBCs as per terms of Clause 10 of Article 338 of the Constitution.
