Constitutional breakdown in Bengal, need for central intervention: LoP Suvendu Adhikari on attack on ED officials

Kolkata: West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Suvendu Adhiakri held West Bengal Mamata Banerjee responsible for the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials and the Constitutional system has broken down in the state.

“There is a need for central intervention and Governor CV Ananda Bose should take action. He is an erudite person, and he knows what action to take,” Adhikari said. He also expressed concern over law-and-order system in the state and also

“There is jungle raj in West Bengal and it has been proved once again following today incident in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Suvendu Adhiakri said on Friday, speaking about attack on Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali.


“There is lawlessness in Bengal and the state's governance has been challenged by the goons today,” Adhikari said.

Shahjahan Sheikh started his career in 2007 during CPI-M regime and then shifted to Trinamool Congress under arrested former State Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick in 2013. “They are instrumental in voting loot in Sandeshkhali, Minakha, Haroa and Sunderbans region,” Adhikari said, while talking about attacks on ED officials. Sheikh was a close aide of Mullick.

“West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had told women and supporters to stand against the agencies. That is why I have said she is responsible for such an attack,” Adhikari added.

At least three Enforcement Directorate officers suffered serious injuries and required hospitalisation.

Reacting to the incident, BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said in the X Handle, “As the law and order situation in Bengal has crumbled thanks to @AITCofficial post the heinous attack on the ED officials at Sandeshkhali, I have written to the Hon'ble Home Minister @AmitShahJi to initiate NIA investigation into the matter to ensure the safety of the people of Bengal.”
