Mallikarjun Kharge levels six charges against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the INDIA bloc’s symbolic impeachment programme in New Delhi.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday levelled six charges against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of conspiring to steal elections, deleting 13.2 crore voters and acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The charges were presented during a symbolic public impeachment programme organised by the INDIA bloc in New Delhi, where the Opposition sought to highlight what it described as irregularities in the electoral process and the functioning of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Kharge accused the CEC of rewriting Form 6 without Parliament’s approval, seizing electoral rolls through the Cabinet and shutting out the other two Election Commissioners.

The programme comes amid the Opposition’s ongoing campaign against alleged “vote theft” and its objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The INDIA bloc has been demanding Kumar’s resignation, an immediate halt to the SIR exercise and the restoration of names allegedly removed illegally from electoral rolls. The alliance has also called for all elections to be conducted using paper ballots instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The Opposition’s campaign has gathered momentum ahead of its November 1 ‘Save Votes–Save the Nation’ march and mega rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.

The symbolic impeachment programme was part of the alliance’s broader attempt to raise questions about electoral transparency and accountability.

Kharge’s six charges against the CEC were:

  • Conspired to steal elections
  • Deleted 13.2 crore voters
  • Rewrote Form 6 without Parliament
  • Seized the rolls through Cabinet
  • Shut out the other two Commissioners
  • Acted at the behest of Modi and Shah
The allegations are part of the INDIA bloc’s broader political challenge to the Election Commission and its handling of electoral rolls.
