Congress Working Committee to meet on Tuesday, INDIA Bloc on Wednesday

New Delhi: Top leaders of the INDIA opposition alliance are scheduled to meet here on September 30 to chalk out a joint offensive against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the central government over reported rift among election commissioners over electoral roll revisions. The Congress Working Committee will meet a day earlier, on September 29, to firm up the party's separate strategy on launching a campaign on these very issues, it is learnt.

The INDIA bloc meeting will discuss the possibility of launching a joint campaign demanding the resignation of the CEC opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across states, people aware of the developments said.

Meanwhile, the Left parties are pushing for a wider mobilisation of anti-CEC/SIR protestors, including parties from outside INDIA bloc and youth and civil society outfits such as Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to ensure maximum unity on the issue.

However, given the bitter parting of the AAP (to whom TMC is soft) and DMK with the INDIA bloc, especially the Congress, and Congress's scepticism about CJP, opposition circles are not sure about the feasibility of a broader meeting.

The INDIA bloc meeting is expected to take up various issues related to the ongoing SIR, including the tardy progress in acting on the appeals by those whose have been deleted from the electoral roll and problems fresh voters are finding in enrolling themselves as voters.
