MUMBAI: Women's wing of Mumbai Congress on Sunday organised a rally in support of the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal creating awareness among people about the benefit of the deal.

The rally was attended by Congress minister in the Maharashtra government and MLA from Bandra, Baba Siddiqui.

Mumbai congress spokesman Krishna Hegde and Jenet D'souza, president of the women's wing of the city unit were present on the occasion along with 300 women activists.

After the rally, the activists drove from Bandra to Juhu in a convoy of about 35 vehicles carrying banners and placards highlighting the important aspects of the deal.

Hegde criticized BJP for its "double standards" saying it was opposing the deal just to grab power.

"The nuclear deal will enable us to have alternate source of energy and lift the sanctions from international community," he said.
