Women Congress MPs term Speaker’s allegations ‘false and baseless’ in letter to Om Birla
New Delhi: A group of women Lok Sabha MPs from Congress wrote to Speaker Om Birla, terming "false and baseless" the charge levelled by the chair last week about some of them allegedly planning to create unrest in the House. Birla had cited this as a reason for advising the PM to stay away from the House when the motion of thanks on the President's address was put to voice vote. These MPs also claimed that the ruling side had asked the Speaker to make such allegations.

Lok Sabha Secretariat claimed that several women MPs had moved "aggressively" towards the PM's seat and Birla had genuine concerns regarding his safety. Citing the sequence of events, it said the Speaker had "well-founded concerns regarding the safety of the Prime Minister".
