Congress wishes to part ways with NCP in Goa: AICC secretary

Congress leaders wish to discontinue their alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in Goa.

PANAJI: Congress leaders wish to discontinue their alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP) for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in Goa, staking their claim to both North Goa as well as South Goa seats, a senior Congress leader said here today.

All India Congress Committee ( AICC) secretary A Chellakumar said local leaders of the party were of the opinion that they should contest from both the seats.

During the last two elections, the NCP had contested North Goa and the Congress had contested from South Goa and while the NCP lost the North Goa seat twice, the Congress had retained the South Goa seat.

Chellakumar said that the opinion to contest both seats was expressed by Congress leaders in Goa during his series of meetings in the state during the last two days.

"I will put their viewpoint across to the High Command, but finally it will be decision of the committee led by A K Antony," the Congress leader said.
