Congress will prove majority in Uttarakhand Assembly: Vijay Bahuguna
New Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today said his party has handed over a list of 40 supporting MLAs to the governor.
"The Assembly session will start on March 26 for four days. The Congress has clear majority and we have support of 40 MLAs and the list has been handed over to the governor," he told reporters here.
Accepting that there have been "some dispute within the party", Bahuguna said, "But no MLA or leader is thinking of causing damage to the party."
He was asked whether Congress will be able to prove its majority in the Uttarakhand assembly.
Attacking the BJP, he said the rival party has no moral right to stake their claim for power after losing the elections in the state.
"In these elections, people of Uttarakhand have voted against the BJP. BJP's Chief Minister ( B C Khanduri) also lost the elections. They have no moral right to even dream of coming to power," he said.
On whether he has reached any agreement with Congress leader Harish Rawat who had raised the banner of revolt after being sidelined from the post of chief ministership, he said, "There is an understanding to obey the decision of the party high command.
"In politics there is nothing such as agreement, it is understanding. Understanding is that we should work together and respect each other and obey the decision of the high command and fulfill the commitments made by us to the people of the state," he said.
Reiterating that there is no question of any leader "even thinking of causing instability" in the party, Bahugana said, "So far as personal ambitions are concerned, our ambitions do sometimes come to clash but then the interest of the party is paramount."
