Congress will not interfere in Sikhs' affairs: Tewari

A day after Parkash Singh Badal met PM over issue of Haryana Govt's attempt for formation of separate SGPC for Sikhs in Haryana, AICC Spokesman categorically said that congress would not interfere in the affairs of Sikhs.

JALANDHAR: A day after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue of Haryana Government's attempt for formation of separate Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for Sikhs in Haryana, AICC Spokesman Munish Tewari on Saturday categorically said that congress would not interfere in the affairs of Sikhs.

"Congress has nothing to do with the separate SGPC for Haryana and it will not at all interfere in the affairs of Sikh", Tewari told reporters when asked his reactions over the Punjab government's objection on the Haryana Government's move.

He the issue was raked up when Sikhs of Haryana demanded separate SGPC before assembly elections in Haryana and accordingly the issue was promised in the poll manifesto, but now it has been decided by the congress that party would not interfere in the affairs of Sikhs.

"However, if the Sikhs Haryana wanted to form separate SGPC on the pattern of DSGMC in New Delhi, don't you think that they have democratic right for the same", he quipped?

Sikhs of Haryana and SGPC should mutually solve this issue and congress will not interfere into it, he reiterated.
