Congress will never implement CAA if voted to power in Assam: Rahul Gandhi

Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that his party would not let the Citizenship (Amendment) Act be implemented in Assam or any other part of the country.

Addressing a rally in Sivasagar, Rahul said, “Congress government had brought peace to Assam by inking the Assam Accord. The principles of the accord will be defended. We will ensure that not an inch is compromised in so far as the accord is concerned. .”

Wearing the traditional Assamese scarf 'Gamcha' with CAA on it, he said CAA will not be implemented. “Those trying to spread hatred and dilute the Assam accord will not be spared by the people of the state. Illegal immigration is an issue and can be solved through dailogue.”


Hitting back at rahul, Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that getting two wheelers is a bigger debate in Assam now than Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Talking to media persons, Sarma said, “Assam government has recently given Scotty to over a thousand girl students who secured first division in the class 12 exams. After that, there is debate on social media is whether the government will a Bullet or a Splendour bike to the meritorous boys. Nobody is talking about CAA now.”
