Congress will be at receiving end in forthcoming polls: National Conference

JAMMU: A senior National Conference leader today alleged that Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir were paying "scant attention" to the demands of people and the party would be at the receiving end in the forthcoming polls in the state.

Additional general secretary of NC, Mustafa Kamaal, also accused the Congress cadre of being "biased" towards the NC counterparts in the state.

"I caution the Congress that they may get away with this unjust attitude while they share power in the state but will certainly be on the receiving end at the hustings," Kamaal said.

He was addressing workers meetings at Rajouri as part of his contact programme today.

He stressed that NC cannot afford to lose its popularity because of Congress' "negative attitude".

The statement was made by Kamaal in the meeting after his party cadre raised concern that Congress ministers and the administration in Rajouri was giving scant attention to their genuine demands and are heavily biased against them.

"Being the premier regional party in the state with a chequered history, NC was fully qualified to serve the people and address all their concerns be it economic, developmental and political," he said.

Kamaal asked the administration of Rajouri and Poonch to immediately access the large scale damage to standing crops due to hail storm and heavy rain especially in the last 48 hours.

He also appealed the government to immediately start relief work.

Kamaal while winding up these meeting stressed that key to lasting peace in J-K lies in friendship between India and Pakistan in a spirit of "live and let live" and atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence.
