Congress violating model code of conduct: BJP

BJP accused the Uttarakhand govt of violating the model code of conduct by distributing money among people out of CM's discretionary fund.

DEHRADUN: Opposition BJP today accused the Uttarakhand government of violating the model code of conduct by distributing money among people out of chief minister's discretionary fund in a desperate bid to win support for the ruling Congress in forthcoming civic body polls.

"Despite the model code of conduct in force in view of April 28 civic body polls, Bahuguna government is distributing cheques out of CM's discretionary fund among Congress supporters to ensure they vote for the party," state BJP spokesman Satish Lakhera said in a statement here.

Terming it as a gross violation of the model code of conduct, the BJP leader said the state election commission should take serious note of diversion of funds meant for the poor and the needy for mobilisation of votes in favour of the party in power.
