NEW DELHI: Congress today attacked BJP using a remark made by L K Advani that the party should refrain from becoming overconfident this time ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

"Advani's remark at the BJP National Council is a telling comment on the state of affairs as BJP and its leaders appear overconfident," party spokesman Meem Afzal told reporters.

Afzal recalled that Advani had said at the party meet: "I have not seen so much of enthusiasm and solid confidence. I congratulate my colleagues who decided to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister candidate. We lost 2004 polls because we had become overconfident. This time we have to ensure we do not become over confident".

Wondering out loud whether Advani was considering himself as a colleague of Modi, the Congress spokesman said his comment was not just a flash in the pan.

When Modi was declared the PM candidate, Advani had written "for sometime, I have been finding it difficult to reconcile either with the current functioning of the party or the direction in which it is going. Most leaders of ours are now concerned just with their personal agendas".
