Congress unperturbed by Trinamool's exit from UPA

NEW DELHI: Congress today did not appear concerned over Trinamool Congress' formal withdrawal of support to the UPA government, saying that "it is their wish".

Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said this when asked by mediapersons about how the ruling party felt after Trinamool, the second largest constituent in the UPA, parted ways with the government.

The reaction of Dwivedi, who is also AICC media department chief, came close on the heels of six Trinamool ministers quitting in protest against FDI in multi-brand retail.

Similarly, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla ruled out any threat to the government following the exit of Trinamool Congress which has 19 MPs in Lok Sabha.

Asked on the opposition demand for a vote in Parliament on the FDI issue and conveying a special session, he said the government is stable as it has adequate numbers.

Shukla said FDI in retail would be a "win-win" situation for both the farmers and consumers.
