Congress to meet on Sunday over Hamirpur by-polls

The Congress in Himachal Pradesh has called a meeting of its leaders to chalk out election strategy and also to discuss names of probable candidates for the May 22 by-poll to the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat.

SHIMLA: The Congress in Himachal Pradesh has called a meeting of its leaders to chalk out election strategy and also to discuss names of probable candidates for the May 22 by-poll to the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat.

The presidents of the four districts of Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una and Kangra constituting the Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency and other members of party organisations from there have been called for the meeting tomorrow at Shimla, state Congress president Viplov Thakur said on Saturday.

The members will discuss election strategy and contemplate names of probable candidates, she said.

Thakur said the meeting would be attended by organisational members and veteran state Congress leader Virbhadra Singh has not been invited for it.

The HPPCC Chief said the party was taking Hamirpur by-poll "very seriously" which would provide an opportunity to expose the unpopular decisions like hiking bus fare, non-availability of foodgrains in public distribution shops during the 100-day rule by Prem Kumar Dhumal ministry.

She said, party members have been asked to apply for nomination for the Hamirpur parliamentary seat by depositing the requisite fee of Rs 10,000 till April 24.
