HYDERABAD: The state unit of Congress has called for a programme to burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against not getting a favourable mention on special category status for Andhra Pradesh and special package for Rayalaseem and North Coastal areas.

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee in a statement alleged that the Prime Minister who today laid foundation stone for AP capital Amaravati did not mention anything on the "Special Category Status" to the state.

"We call for a programme tomorrow to burn Modi's effigy," it added.

"The people of AP expected a categorical assurance from the PM on the Special category Status for the state besides implementing all provisions in the AP Reorganisation Act. However, they were thoroughly disappointed," the statement said.
