Congress to bring no-confidence motion against Trinamool government

KOLKATA: Congress has decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Trinamool government in West Bengal in the upcoming Assembly session starting from December 2.

The party, whose number of legislators have come down to 39 after five MLAs switched over to Trinamool Congress, said it will get in touch with the Left Front, which has 31 MLAs, to enlist its support for the motion.

TMC had won 211 seats out of 294 in the Assembly election, defeating the Left-Congress combine.

"We have decided to bring no-confidence motion against the corrupt government. The way it has poached on our MLAs, elected representatives in rural bodies and municipalities is not only undemocratic, but also unprecedented in the history of Bengal politics," Leader of Opposition and state Congress leader Abdul Mannan said.

"Infant trafficking, chit fund scams, poaching on MLAs are regular affair in Bengal politics under TMC rule," he alleged.

About justification of the no-trust motion when Congress does not have the numbers to beat TMC, party MLA Manoj Chakraborty said, "It is not a question of winning or losing. It is about registering our protest and people's anger against the undemocratic and dictatorial functioning of the government."
