Congress terms BJP noisemaker, rejects call for PM’s resignation

With the BJP sharpening its attack on the government and the prime minister, the Congress retaliated by saying that the Opposition just does not practice what it preaches.

NEW DELHI: With the BJP sharpening its attack on the government and the prime minister, the Congress retaliated by saying that the Opposition just does not practice what it preaches.

“We practice the ideology of sincerity. They preach the ideology of shor (noise), that of rallies which are meaningless,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said. Singhvi also attacked Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa for his involvement in the alleged land scam. “I will remind you of the Tehelka scam, the petrol pump scam... and, of course, Karnataka.”

The Congress said the government has taken concrete action on the allegations of graft. “On the one hand, there is concrete action taken by the Congress, and on the other, there is a false rally and doublespeak of the BJP... The anti-corruption rally was ironically held by the greatest practitioners of corrupt practices, the champions of inaction on corruption, and they are preaching to those who have each and every time taken severe action, demonstrated through concrete steps. It was a rally by hypocrites who hold the Guinness record in both parliamentary dysfunction and inept action. The country has always made the most important distinction between the two,” Singhvi said.

The Congress also rejected the BJP’s demand for the prime minister’s resignation. “They (BJP) had earlier also made baseless allegations against the PM and they got a strong reply from the people. People of India will once again give them a reply,” he said.

Singhvi said that a multi-pronged probe was being conducted in the 2G spectrum scam. “JPC can, at best, make recommendations,” he said, adding that the BJP and other Opposition parties wanted to indulge in “political grandstanding and wanted to keep the pot boiling”.
