The Congress in Assam has raked up the 2002 Gujarat riots and published ads in local newspapers on Saturday.

GUWAHATI: The Congress in Assam has raked up the 2002 Gujarat riots and published ads in local newspapers on Saturday featuring Qutubuddin Ansari, whose photo had emerged as the definitive image of the clashes.

The advertisement asked: "Do you want Assam to be become like this?" BJP spokesperson Bijon Mahajan said that this was a violation of the model code of conduct and that the Election Commission must take note of it.

"This is breach of Section 153 (a) and 295 (a) of IPC. The advertisement also violates Section 125 of People's Representation Act," he said. "We want to show what the BJP has done in Gujarat, the politics of fear and conflict," Congress' Rhituporna Konwar told ET .
