GUWAHATI: Congress suffered severe jolt as BJP in Assam stake claim to rule the sixth scheduled area of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC).

The congress ruled council in sudden development has seen eleven members joining BJP. Its strength has risen to 18 in the 30-member NCHAC. BJP already had seven BJP members in the NCHAC.

On Saturday BJP state unit president of BJP Siddhartha Bhattacharjee along with BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma took the members to Rajbhavan and met Governor P B Acharya and staked the claim to form the council.

Congress has alleged horse trading. Party's spokesperson, Ripun Bora said that this is a challenge to democracy.

Sarma however countered that people are deserting congress due to its policy. "Is this horse trading?
