KOLKATA: The Congress and the SUCI today staged a walkout in the West Bengal Assembly after their adjournment motions on the brutal killing of a college student in North 24-Parganas district were rejected.

A similar adjournment motion moved by the Left parties too faced the similar fate, following which their MLAs protested in the well of the House.

"What is going on in the state? A student is murdered and the chief minister, who is also in charge of the Home Department, is not present in the Assembly to make a statement! We brought an adjournment motion and that was not accepted," senior Congress MLA Manas Bhuniya said outside the House.

Opposition leader CPI-M's Surya Kanta Mishra regretted that whenever an adjournment motion was moved on a burning issue, it got rejected in the House.

"The state administration is inactive in arresting the culprits," he said.
