Congress strategic meeting ahead of Parliament session

NEW DELHI: With Budget Session of Parliament due soon, Congress top brass, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party chief Sonia Gandhi, today deliberated here on the strategy ahead.

The meeting of the Congress Core Group at the Prime Minister's 7, Race Course Road residence came close on the heels of demands for the resignation of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien in the wake of fresh revelations in the Suryanelli rape case.

It also came in the backdrop of BJP's plans to target Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde in the Budget Session over his 'Hindu terrorism' remarks.

The Budget Session of Parliament will be convened from February 21.

The Congress leadership has also been deliberating on the issue of Telangana amid growing protests in Andhra Pradesh on the statehood issue.
