Congress spreading negative propaganda on land acquisition bill: Kirit Solanki

AHMEDABAD: Lok Sabha member from Ahmedabad- west Kirit Solanki today alleged that Congress was trying to gain a political mileage by spreading negative information against the land acquisition bill.

Referring to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh's statement here that his party would soon start a country-wide protest and the original land acquisition act passed during the UPA rule should not be altered, Solanki said the laws are meant to be changed.

"There are many loopholes in the old act, which led to many problems in acquisition of lands. As a result, many Chief Ministers complained that they are unable to undertake development-related works in their states. This new bill is aimed at solving these problems," claimed Solanki.

"There is nothing wrong with changing the old acts to suit current requirements. That is why even the Parliament amended the Constitution whenever required. Congress is trying to gain political advantage by spreading such negative propaganda against the new bill," he said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that we (BJP MPs) should reach out to people and spread awareness about the new provisions in the bill. Apart from meeting the stake-holders and farmers, some MPs are also distributing leaflets in their areas to clear doubts about the bill," he said.
