Congress split Vande Mataram, paved way for Partition: Union Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday accused the Congress of playing appeasement politics by deciding to render only two stanzas of 'Vande Mataram' at party events and said this amounted to an insult to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and freedom fighters.

In a statement to the media, the home minister said the same decision made by the Congress in 1937 laid the foundation of the partition of the country. In the 150th year of 'Vande Mataram', the Modi government corrected this historic mistake by deciding that the complete song will be sung at government programmes, he said.

Terming the Congress Working Committee's decision "shocking and antinational", Shah appealed to the people to raise their voice against it.

The entire country should remember that, in 1937, the Congress party, for the sake of Muslim appeasement, divided 'Vande Mataram' into two parts and laid the foundation for the partition of the country, Shah said.

"It was from there that the two-nation theory gained strength, ultimately leading to the partition of the country and the birth of Pakistan," he said.

The Modi government decided that the complete song will be sung at all government programmes and gave legal sanctity to this decision, but the Congress decided to disregard this decision, Shah said.

The Congress decision only confirmed its blatant policy of appeasement, he alleged. To appease its vote bank, the Congress not only insulted the immortal composition of late Bankim Babu but also insulted the millions of martyrs who, chanting 'Vande Mataram', sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and spent several years in jail, he said.

The Congress is today following its own 1937 party resolution while rejecting the Act of Parliament, Shah said. It is deeply surprising that, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party is once again vigorously pursuing the politics of appeasement in the country, he said.
