The Congress in Kerala today sought an explanation from senior party leader KV Thomas, MP, on his reported remarks lavishing praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi led a government which was "anti-people and backed attacks and cruelties," KPCC President M M Hassan said in a statement and asked Thomas to make it clear if he had expressed views praising the Prime Minister.

Addressing a function of the Kerala Management Association at Kochi yesterday, Thomas had reportedly stated he was comfortable with the Prime Minister, who was an able administrator and could convince others about his decisions.

However, Thomas today said he was misquoted by the media and that he had not praised Modi as a good administrator.

"He (Modi) is not a good administrator," the former union minister said in a statement.

"What I said was...many of his (Modi's) administrative decisions like demonetisation, GST have gone wrong but he was able to manage (the situations) with his management skills," Thomas said.

Opposition leader in the state assembly Ramesh Chennithala also said he had spoken to Thomas about the media reports.
