Congress seeks CEC exit; BJP says bid to mask Rahul Gandhi's 100 defeats

New Delhi: Congress leaders and workers on Friday staged demonstrations outside Election Commission offices in various state capitals, demanding the resignation and arrest of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following revelations that two election commissioners had differed with him on aspects of SIR implementation.

Some Left groups also held a demonstration in Delhi against the CEC.

The Congress also welcomed Union minister Chirag Paswan's call for the CEC to come clean on the allegations. It said it hoped more NDA allies would do so, even as the party said opposition parties would jointly take up the issue.

"The election commissioners should understand one thing clearly: the youth of India will protect the Constitution and democracy, and will expose you and won't allow 'vote chori' to happen," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a short video message.

Gandhi's remarks on behalf of the youth came as the Cockroach Janta Party, an organisation the Congress leadership is politically uneasy with, announced its resolve to launch a Gen Z agitation seeking the CEC's resignation.

Reiterating the Congress demand that Kumar resign and turn approver, party spokesperson Pawan Khera warned the CEC that he could otherwise face a 'Nuremberg-like trial' in future.
