Congress: Sack Assam CM; Let SIT probe land deals linked to wife's firm

​​The AICC and Assam Congress leaders alleged that a company linked to Sarma's wife and relatives "has illegally grabbed the government land" meant for poor people and for institutions.

The Congress on Sunday demanded the Centre to sack Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and immediately constitute a time-bound probe by a special investigation team under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge into an alleged land scam involving his family.

The AICC and Assam Congress leaders alleged that a company linked to Sarma's wife and relatives "has illegally grabbed the government land" meant for poor people and for institutions.

AICC in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh, MPs Ripun Bora, Gaurav Gogoi and Abdul Khaleque from the state and party spokesman Gaurav Vallabh raised the demand at a press conference at the Congress headquarters. In a statement they said: "...Sarma...is handing over the government land worth crores to his family members on his own whims and fancies..."
