Congress rules out resignation of Delhi CM over CAG report
With Opposition mounting pressure for Sheila Dikshit ouster over CAG findings, Congress on Monday firmly ruled out her resignation.
"There is no need for the resignation of Dikshit... question does not arise. The report has nowhere indicted the Chief Minister. It does not have any objectionable references to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit," Congress spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam told reporters outside Parliament.
Questioning BJP's stand over CAG report, he said, "If a chief minister has to resign on the basis of CAG report then there is a CAG report against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar about the lapses of Rs 40,000 crore. If Shiela should resign, then BJP should also ask for Nitish resignation.
"In UP also there is CAG report against Mayawati over the installation of statutes. Was Mayawati's resignation sought on the basis of CAG report?", he asked
He said the Comptroller and Auditor General had clarified that there was no indictment of Dikshit in the report and it had only mentioned about the lapses in the preparation of the Games.
The BJP today demanded that an FIR be registered against Dikshit after her name figured in the CAG report on alleged irregularities in the Commonwealth Games.
"The CAG report against Delhi CM has clearly put her in the dock. Not only should she resign, we demand that an FIR should be lodged against her," party spokesperson Tarun Vijay told reporters here.
An aggressive Opposition created storm in Parliament, disrupting its proceedings for the day by pressing for her resignation.
