Congress representatives to meet Assam leaders to curb rebellion before polls
NEW DELHI: Central representatives of the Congress are scheduled to meet Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, PCC chief Anjan Dutta and leader of the rebels Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi on Wednesday as part of the efforts to try and find an amicable solution to the intensified rebellion in the pollbound state. The warring leaders may also meet Rahul Gandhi, sources said.

AICC representatives including Assam general secretary CP Joshi decided to mediate between the two warring factions of the Assam Congress after their discussions with Sarma last week. "CM Gogoiji, PCC chief Anjan Duttaji and senior leader Himanta Biswas have been invited to come to Delhi to discuss some matters relating to the state Congress," said an AICC representative. Even as the rebels are cooperating with the AICC’s peace-making efforts, they are also working on a standby option. It is learnt that the rebels’ representatives have moved application with the Election Commission for registering a regional party in the event of a contingency.
