NEW DELHI: The Congress has sought to confront the Centre with several questions on the bail granted to Jaish-e-Mohammed member and Pulwama terror conspiracy case accused Yusuf Chopan. The party demanded home minister Amit Shah and the National Investigation Agency chief’s resignation over the matter.

Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi on Friday demanded an explanation from the Centre as to why the NIA had failed to frame charge sheet against Chopan even a year after the Pulwama incident. Singhvi said the NIA saying it had had not found admissible evidence to frame charges against Chopan amounted to “worse cases of compromise with JeM anti-nationalism and crime against India”. He said, “How is this possible? Is this not a clean chit to JeM? What kind of madness is this? Either the government is thoroughly incompetent or is guilty of lying.”

Chiding NIA claim that Yusuf Chopan was never arrested in the Pulwama case, Singvi asked Shah and NIA to clarify this statement “"Is Yousuf Chopan a terrorist of JeM? Well, the answer is yes. Is the JeM responsible for the Parliament, Pulwama and many similar terrorist attacks?...Why was a charge sheet not filed against Chopan? Do you consider Pulwama and Parliament attacks anti-national crimes...?” Singhvi questioned.
