RAIPUR: Massive protests erupted across Chahttisgarh with hundreds of Congress workers coming out on the streets, gheraoing Raj Bhavan and chief minister's official residence in the state capital, protesting against the killing of senior Congress leaders in a Maoist attack in Bastar.

Agitated Congress workers marched towards Raj Bhavan and gathered at the official residence of chief minister Raman Singh, raising slogans and demanding dismissal of the Raman Singh government for its alleged laxity in providing security to the Congress Parivartan Yatra.

"There is a serious lapse on the part of the state government and the police. Congress workers are agitated and demanding dismissal of Raman Singh government," state Congress media cell in charge Shailesh Nitin Trivedi told TOI.

Congress workers, youth Congress members and NSU (I) workers came out on the streets and staged demonstrations. There are also reports of a clash between the Congress and BJP workers in Kondagaon district of Bastar region.

Opposition Congress has called for a statewide bandh on Sunday in protest against the incident.
