Congress promise on power tariff a statement of self-indictment: AAP

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party today termed as a statement of self-indictment the Congress' promise of significant cuts in power tariff in its manifesto.

The party also sought to claim credit for bringing the issue of power tariff in the electoral discourse by forcing even the BJP to talk about the issue.

"The Congress manifesto is a statement of self-indictment about its deception with the people of Delhi for 15 years, who suffered under its rule due to exorbitantly high electricity tariffs," a party release said.

In its manifesto, Congress promised to provide 200 units of electricity for domestic use at Rs 1.50 per unit, and cheaper rates thereafter.

Power tariff has been a major issue and a section in Congress feels AAP could make a spectacular debut in 2013 Assembly polls as the party had promised to cut the rates by 50 per cent.

Referring to BJP's advertisements promising power cuts, the party accused BJP of deceiving people by not taking any step in that direction in the Budget for Delhi presented in the Parliament last year.

"BJP advertisements in newspapers are now promising reduction in electricity tariffs by 50 per cent. What prevented the BJP from doing so when its central government presented the Delhi budget in Parliament in July last year?" a party spokesperson said.
