Congress president Sonia Gandhi asks Assam CM Gogoi to ensure changes in syllabus
GUWAHATI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked the northeastern states to initiate steps for comprehensive inclusion of the history and culture of Assam and the region in NCERT and state syllabi.

In a letter to Assam CM Tarun Gogoi on December 2, the Congress chief has asked him to ensure that the syllabus changes as recommended by the MP Bezbaruah Committee are meaningful. The panel was set up to look into problems faced by people from the Northeast in other parts of the country after the gruesome killing of Arunachal Pradesh youth Nido Tania in Delhi in January this year.

Out of the seven states in the region, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh are Congress ruled. She pointed if the Centre does not act on the Bezbaruah panel recommendations, the Congress-ruled states “should do whatever is possible to implement them within their own states”.
