A fresh political row erupted Wednesday after Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak on Tuesday posted an AI-generated video portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘chaiwala’ serving tea at an international summit.

The post triggered sharp reactions across the political landscape, intensifying tensions during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

Responding to this, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of repeatedly mocking the Prime Minister’s humble origins.

“After Renuka Chowdhury insults Parliament and now Ragini Nayak attacks and mocks PM Modi's Chaiwala background Naamdar Congress cannot stand a Kamdar PM from OBC community who has come from a poor background They mocked his Chaiwala background earlier too. They abused him 150 times. They abused his mother in Bihar,” he said in a post on X. He added, “People will never forgive them.”

The controversy around PM Modi’s background resurfaced months after a man appeared on stage during a Congress event in Bihar and shouted insults about the Prime Minister and his mother.

Meanwhile, the clash between both sides escalated further inside Parliament. BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Congress MPs were repeatedly insulting Parliament and its members. “When MP Renuka Chowdhury came to the Parliament with her pet dog and when someone from the media asked her about it, she said that this is just a tiny being and doesn't bite, that those sitting inside (the Parliament) are the ones who bite, that those who are running the Government are the ones who bite,” he said in a press conference.

Patra added that when Rahul Gandhi was questioned, “He said, ‘andar toh allowed hai’ and pointed towards the House.”

The verbal sparring follows another incident earlier this month when Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury hit out at Union Minister Kiren Rijiju over the Opposition protests in Parliament. “Arey tum nalayak ho toh hum kya karein, tumko chalana aata nahi hai to hum kya karein? Hum mudda bhi na uthayein?” she said, criticising the government for blaming the Opposition for disruptions.

Rijiju had earlier stated that while every issue is important, obstructing parliamentary proceedings is “not right.”
