JAIPUR: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit a number of famous temples in Rajasthan when he kicks off the party’s election campaign later this month.

The state Congress has shortlisted Shrinathji in Nathdwara, Khatu Shyamji in Sikar and Govind Devji in Jaipur for the purpose. Gandhi had visited many famous temples in Gujarat and Karnataka during assembly poll campaign.

“We have invited Rahul Gandhi to visit Rajasthan this month, but the date of his visit has not been finalised,” PCC chief Sachin Pilot said.

Answering a question, Pilot asked: “How does it matter if he visits religious places during his visit? Even his father, Rajiv Gandhi, used to visit religious places.” Rahul Gandhi is slated to start his election campaign in Madhya Pradesh from the Omkareshwar temple. Gandhi will face stiff competition in Rajasthan from chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who frequents temples. She will start her Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra from the Charbhujanath temple and also visit several other temples.
